Vals Deep Dive with Lise Brody
Discover the joyful, swirling world of Argentine Tango Vals in this special workshop led by Lise Brody. We'll explore how to hear and play with the waltz rhythm, finding the conversation between the 1, 2, 3 and 3, 1 phrasing that gives vals its distinctive flow and energy.
Through exercises and partner work, we'll deepen our connection to the music, our dance partners, and the floor, developing greater musicality, responsiveness, and ease in motion. Whether you're new to vals or looking to refine your understanding of its rhythms and possibilities, this class will offer tools to enrich your dance.
Presented as part of our Queer Tango series, this workshop centers queer community while warmly welcoming dancers of all identities, experience levels, and dance roles.

About the Instructor
Lise Brody (she/they) took their first Argentine Tango workshop circa 1997 and was utterly hooked, but, constrained by the demands of single parenting, waited 15 aching years to pursue their passion. She began in earnest in the early 2010s, and has been organizing and teaching with Queer Tango Boston for about ten years. They have studied with a wide range of teachers, the most formative being Hsueh-tze Lee and Gaston Olguin. Prior to falling for tango, Lise received an MFA in Dance from CalArts. Over the years, she has taught Modern Dance, choreography, and movement for actors. They are a longtime QT-evangelist, and feel they are due at least one toaster oven.
